Duties you must perform

Inside the Magic, a leading entertainment news website is looking for innovative, creative, passionate freelance writers to pitch and write stories for our platform on an article-by-article basis.

Send your pitch and any pertinent writing samples to pitches@insidethemagic.net to apply. Starting at 25 cents per word, we offer fixed prices. Being an inclusive platform, we welcome writers from various backgrounds to submit their work.

We are now more interested in long readings and personal essays that analyze current events in the entertainment news. Though we do accept pitches on a variety of subjects, we also encourage authors to submit their ideas even if they don't fall under one of these headings.

Pitch Techniques

Email pitches@insidethemagic.net with your tale concept. Please be patient with us as we might not respond to your email for a few weeks. Add "Urgent" to the subject line if your pitch is time-sensitive. We will make an effort to reply to every email, but due to the volume, we may not be able to. Send a catchy but succinct proposal to stand out from the competition.

The top pitches comprise:

• Written-out display Create an attention-grabbing dek and a functioning headline for your story to get our attention.

• A distinctive perspective: Since we cover such well-known subjects, we're interested in how your story will differentiate itself from the competition.

• Formatting and approximate lengths: Do you anticipate a lengthy narrative, a roundup that serves a purpose, a first-person essay, a hot op-ed, or something completely different? Give a brief description of the direction you envision taking your story, along with a rough word count.

• Please provide a few sentences describing your research and reporting strategy if you're pitching a lengthy or thoroughly reported item. When possible, we'll seek out original reporting and sources to consult.

• Please provide links to pertinent examples of your prior work in your clips.

Please remember to be inclusive when you pitch and report. We do not accept unsolicited stories.

What We're Seeking Currently

Essays: Inside the Magic essays are typically 1,200 words long and explore a current issue through your own experience. Maybe you have a pitch about what you took out from Frozen about parenting, what you learned about yourself working at Disneyland, or how the Mandalorian helped you cope with losing your mom.

Long Reads: Our long reads often have a story structure, characters, and a relevant hook, and they are at least 2,000 words long. It's crucial to describe the narrative arc in these pitches and to give any characters you intend to use some personality. A lengthy read can include the untold biography of Disney's most well-known voice actor or a first-person account of touring the park's most eerie locations.
